Project Brief
Mel has a very successful Airbnb property in Holt, Norfolk. It had a rear door porch which was in need of replacement, due to significant wood rot. The brief was to create a new porch in a similar design to the old one but, where possible, use low-maintenance materials. The agreed design used a combination of softwood (for the window frames), hardwood (for the sills) and upvc (for the gutter facia board and side cladding).
Original porch
These pictures show the original porch in a very poor state of repair. The glass pains are of a very old design, with a more contemporary alternative required. The brick base elements were to be retained.
Work in Progress
The frames for the glass were built off-site. Once these and the hardwood sills were ready, the old porch was braced using Acrow supports and the existing gutters, rotten wood and glass removed, before then installing the new frames and sills. Once secured, the Acrows could be removed and the gutter facia board and side cladding replaced and the old guttering re-fitted. Finally the window frames were painted and made water tight with sealant.
Completed Project
The result was a solid, clean lined porch, with a lower future maintenance requirements.
